FUNDING…Who Gets It?
Financial aid is available to those who qualify. To find out if you qualify, you start with the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Remember, your income is just one consideration. So, complete the FAFSA! We’ll get the results & let you know your funding options!
Federal Student Aid has multiple funding options: Pell Grants, Direct Loans, & Plus Loans. To learn more see Tuition Funding Options below.
A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid, except under certain circumstances.
You should start by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. You will have to fill out the FAFSA form every year you’re in school in order to stay eligible for federal student aid.
Amounts can change yearly. The maximum Federal Pell Grant award is $6,495 for the 2021–22 award year (July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022).
The amount you get, though, will depend on
the cost of attendance (determined by your school for your specific program),
your status as a full-time or part-time student, and
Direct Subsidized Loans are loans made to eligible undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need to help cover the costs of higher education at a college or career school.
Direct Subsidized Loans are available to undergraduate students with financial need.
Your school determines the amount you can borrow, and the amount may not exceed your financial need.
The U.S. Department of Education pays the interest on a Direct Subsidized Loan
Direct Unsubsidized Loans are loans made to eligible undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, but eligibility is not based on financial need.
Direct Unsubsidized Loans are available to undergraduate and graduate students; there is no requirement to demonstrate financial need.
Your school determines the amount you can borrow based on your cost of attendance and other financial aid you receive.
You are responsible for paying the interest on a Direct Unsubsidized Loan during all periods.
The U.S. Department of Education makes Direct PLUS Loans to eligible parents and graduate or professional students through schools participating in the Direct Loan Program.
Here’s a quick overview of Direct PLUS Loans:
The maximum PLUS loan amount you can receive is the cost of attendance (determined by the school) minus any other financial aid received.

The annual Great Scholarship Program, given in memory of Alice Madden Barton, offers financial assistance to students across North America totaling over $100,000. The program supports those students pursuing careers in cosmetology by providing tuition assistance. Alice Madden Barton saw firsthand how a career in cosmetology provided opportunity for growth and financial stability. Her hope was that more “young folks” have the same opportunity, so Ray and Rhoda (Great Clips Chairman and Co-Chair of the Board) started the Great Scholarship Program in her memory.
Scholarship values provided by Great Clips, Inc.
Great Clips, Inc. funds this national recruiting program. A total of twenty-two $5,000 scholarships will be given annually to students throughout the United States and Canada.
